Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) is an American initiative which helps to make opiate agonist treatment available to individuals who cannot access methadone or levo-alpha-acetyl-methadol (LAAM) treatment.

What Is the Difference between OTP from OBOT?
Unlike Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) that offer comprehensive outpatient treatment including pharmacotherapy for opioid use disorder, Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) primarily involves practitioners prescribing medications for this disorder in a non-OTP setting. While OBOTs are not required to provide behavioural health services, it is recommended to connect patients with community-based mental health services if such services are not available within the OBOT framework.
One of the commonly prescribed medications in OBOT is buprenorphine. Buprenorphine is known as a partial opioid agonist, which means it binds to the same receptors in the brain as opioids but produces a diminished effect.
